Yorkshire Dales, near Skipton....Theres a bit about me on the welcome blog page....so you never were MrGongGong....

No, I'll probably never ever go to london ever again....except maybe to get Euro-star....in fact now I've recently broken up with me missus (24 years) who made me go on Eurostar, that makes it very unlikely ....SHAME....but I still got family in Bristol (brother, sister Somerset), I may be down that way sometime....HAVE A GOOD TIME....wish I could be teleported there and back....rarely get to see a gig....bit of a recluse....

I like to get the odd track of Albert via LAST,,,,but as you say not the dumbassed stuff....but within a day I might listen to 20 different gendres of music....I'll start a thread about Cecil Taylor and Charles Gayle in a few days. I've only been ont interweb for a year or more so its only now that I'm catching up on stuff that passed me by while skint (nearly always) and bringing up kids....

cecil taylor
yes indeed
you is going in the right direction with him
jessuschristalmighty yes
one mighty mound of music
around his way
check out one too many salty swift
check out anything at all
but i'd say there's the pre-european cecil
and there's the post european cecil
and there's all that awfull stuff with archie shepp
dont go there first i'd say
anything with jimmy lyons yes indeed for sure

but you gotta be ready to immerse yourself in the man
try lisnin to those long concerts in one sitting
i mean really listen sat still lisnin
it's a world of stuff
2 and a half hours he used to play concerts
straight out
no stopping
torrents of everything including hate
worked as a dishwasher rather than sell out his music
kept playing the music no on wanted
[we are not talking about music whores here
jo lavono you know i mean you
accoustic ladyland you too]

a difficult character
he dont play ball with the man does he

I tend to like stuff where it really sounds like he is himself, and hasnt decided where something going until he already made it happen and kinda has surprised himself....I know its probably almost certainly not like that, but thats the way it sounds to me....I like Charles Gayle because of his attempting to go beyond his own ability, and doing it anyway.....again maybe its not like that....and most definitely i have not heard enough.

Correction: Cecil did play with ayler. It's documented on the 'Holy Ghost' box set (forget which disc). And mighty fine it is too.

Were are no longer speaking of notes, but feelings ...innit?

Ayler is good, he just "feels" right to me.
