OK, seeing as the revamped Jazz on 3 is just the same shizzle but a greater length, and I really can't stand listening to all the dross, are there any kind souls out there who are thinking of recording tonight's show, and maybe putting the sonny simmons segment on the internet? I watched a video of 10 mins of the sheffield performance from simmons' UK tour, but I'd quite like to hear the whole concert, especially as I'm a bit disappointed to have missed him this time round (after catching him with the (IMHO) lamentable Tight Meat).

tight meat are a very dubious combo indeed
i mean the phrase tight meat is a very dubious one i'd say

leaving aside the laughable music of that same shite outfit

i didnt listen

i have a cd i got for free of sonny simmons
i think it's called cosmosamatics or summat
it has no bass on it
i quite liked that a while back

but i saw sonny simmons at the cube in bristol
with tight meat. it was deplorable nonsense.
i think i only listened to one set

i really dont like lisnin to jizz nelson 'i'm a millionnairre get me in there'
at all so i didnt tune in
i missed not hearing the interview
cos i usually get to leap about in outrage
wheneve i hear jezz nelson trying to cash in someone else's
street cred

but so far i havent listened

did anyone listen?

So, KK, did you record the whole set they did at the Vortex? If the BBC did, they sure didn't broadcast it. Where was the English horn, the oud? Did I fall asleep while listening again & not notice the difference? It was also rather a krap recording, due in part I suppose to the mediocre (at best) acoustics of the new improved Vortex. I was there, & quite dug it. He's good at what he does, & the Sheffield crew sounded okay, apart from some busy chord comping on t'guitar, which irritated me.
As for the 'interview' with Sonny, well, unlike Alyn Shipton talking to Oliver Lake a while back, it wasn't a real interview at all, more an in-depth monologue by Sonny, & all the better for that despite some feeble interjections by our hombre in jsss. After it was over jzz was chatting to some acolyte in the studio & said of Sonny 'of course, he had a few'. The guy was recounting the miseries & extasies of his life, the heavenly highs, the abysmal lows, & the only commentary available from our 'representative' is this kind of patronizing meconium. Sonny Rollins will have to stretch his powers of forbearance in his forthcoming interview with jzz; the guy, from what I've heard in interview, is alarmingly articulate & probing, given to quirky twists of logic, & used to have a reputation of not suffering fools gladly.

Is this symbol at last the Sefher yetzirah, ô KK?

I like the sound of this trio by Bailey, Braxton & Lewis. Not available commercially, eh?

yes, I read a review of the gig and thought - 'hang on a minute, surely jon3 wouldn't neglect to broadcast the whole thing, would they'? of course they would, as i should have known from prior experience. beats me why you would bother extending the runningtime of your show, only to keep concerts cut and fill up the rest with litemagazine 'banter'. i personally would have preffered to hear the horn to the solo version of round midnight - decent though it was, i do find it a little trying to listen to, as it's so frequently covered. the version for me that still has that 'sound of surprise' is the one of 'mulligan meets monk'.

...no Ubu my friend, I was not there, this link is to my humble audacity rip of the radio broadcast, just the music without the banality of the Nelson 'touch' .. the Vortex of course is on my boycott list.
Tapas bar.

They didn't record the best bits anyway.
Sonny Simmons' autobiographical monologue was worth a listen; jzz had to retreat to wallpaper-land, where he belongs.
No, I didn't listen to the 'stunning' feature on jazz comebacks. The complete gig would have been preferable to some half-baked chiotte of this nature; anybody who posts on this bored could no doubt cobble together better.
