Have any visitors to this bored acquired the Braxton-box, now officially released, yet?
For those who have only picked up on this era in parts, it might be just the thing, but I have most of what I need on vinyl, some of it for years, being the 1st Braxton records I heard.
The notes by Mike Heffley might be worth a read, but the original liner notes are missing, posted now by Jason Guthartz on his restructures discography site, including some composition notes by the man himself.
The only part I haven't heard in its entirety is the music for 4 orchestras, & of course the conditions could have been more favourable, tho I doubt if he'll redo it at this stage.
I hope it doesn't distract people from listening to Braxton's ongoing output 'Diamond curtain wall'
etc.

I've been wondering about getting it and also hesitating, though I don't have the LPs any more. I don't like Composition 82 for four orchestras at all, it's atrociously played and IMO not much of a composition either compared with many things he's done since then. Nor am I that keen on the Braxton/Abrams duo record or Composition 95 for two pianos. If the CDs came out separately I'd get hold of Five Pieces 1975, New York Fall 1974, Creative Orchestra Music 1976, For Trio and Montreux/Berlin immediately.

That link of yours should have been to here, surely?

I've only recently discovered his music so I was interested to see quite a lot about him, including the Mosaic box, on Destination: Out including some mp3s for those of us who don't know much of the music.

The "Iridium" stuff is essential, Andy, do give it a listen.

Wrong link, Richard (I must have been nodding).
I'd agree with all your recommendations,  'For trio', even with its open-ended & unresolved quality; the others should have no difficulty communicating to the 'average jazz fan.'
No doubt some of the individual albums will be downloadable, but how much will  Braxton get out of this?
Some GTM is essential listening  if you want an overall view of his music. From the 1980s probably the London concert or 1 of the other British gigs.
