Pretty much a must listen programme for me already I think. Works as an interesting programme in its own right as well as stimulating other areas to investigate. Avoids the obvious too of just taking a chronological trundle through jazz history. Appeals to the expert, novice and points in between ( which is where I fit ) Alyn Shipton is ideal and good to know he is a permanent fixture.

Have just had to switch off Jazz Line Up when some bloke called Jack came on. What was that all about ?

bOBBYz, MAN:

I find it hard to, like, believe that onbody's picked up yer JAZZ LIBRARY thread  >>>> this is exacltly the type (OR ONE TYPE) of jazzprog that the BBC should be puttin' out > it shows up the efforts of Somethin' Else prods & others for the disgraceful market-led LAZY CRUD that they are.

Good ol' Alyn Shipton.
Carrier of the torch
Informative stuff
blah blah etceteraNow what we need is a program that actually represents current developments in the music, ahem.

...as for that Jack Massarick BUFFOON...

Hi Kenny

Blimey, I'd forgotten I'd written that post. But glad to say that Alyn Shipton hasn't let me down in the interim and Jazz Library is still excellent. Ok, a few of the featured artists haven't appealed but that's to be expected over a long term run.

Sad to say I don't remember many ( any ? ) other jazz programmes on R3 in the last six months that have been worth listening to. Oh, forgot the Braxton / Taylor concert but that was sort of given to them on a plate to broadcast and they didn't have to give it much thought to produce.

yes the Braxton/Taylor concert was given them on a plate but they still kinda messed it up on their broadcast...

anyway.

Though I haven't got round to listening to Jazz Library in the past few weeks, it is an excellent programme.
