I don't presume to judge Limonov's political career (although I'm instantly wary of anything called "The Nationalist Bolshevist Moverment") - his main activity seems to be causing protests by having his followers chain themselves to the handrails of trains between Moscow and Kaliningrad  (ie demanding the right to visa-free transit across Lithuania).

However, he is quite an unpleasant and overt sexist, and I find his published comments on the topic extremely slimey Sad

I fear both he and Mad Vlad divert attention from serious Opposition candidates like Kasparov or Khakamada - silly publicity stunts get more attention than they really deserve Sad

I did not know Limonov was a politician. I saw one of his books when we lived in Ca. Many of our friends were reading his book. I think it was this book that I saw

I just looked inside and read a few random pages. That was enough. I was not going to read that.
However, many of my friends did read. I don't know who liked it, but they read it.

I did not even know that he came back to Russia. I think he is abnormal. Something is definately wrong with his brain and his thinking.

But for a simple Russian who was never abroad and is struggling to survive the whole world is mad and abnormal, I suppose.

Thank you for telling me about Limonov. I know very little about Russian politics.

Limonov wasn't always a politician, of course - it's something he has taken up in more recent years, after his return to Russia.

This is awful. How this people can walk this earth I don't know.

Thank you, Reiner. I had no idea that he is in politic. I thought he was on social assistance in the States.

Who else is there in politics?

It was difficult for me to adjust to America.

I just remembered how different relations between people were.

Fore example, when americans would invite you with your partner they expect you to sit together and talk to each other. It is hard for me to explain what they expect you to do, but it was not the same as in my country.
I adjusted to this tradition and was all right with it after a while.

When we came back to Europe and lived in Wales I had a shock again.
It was rude to sit together and only talk to each other. It was like going back to my country. You were suppose to talk to every body and they would not sit you next to each other.

I had shock two times. The first time I thought I was crazy because people did not understand my behaviour correctly.
The second time I also felt strange or rude, because I would avoid speaking too much to other people.

thank you, pim_derks,
It is awful and embarrasing for me. Limonov's party is not in parlament this time. I think they did not make it.
He has supporters and with regard to the way Serbs were treated many Russians (me included) will say that it was not fair. I resent the fact that Serbs were pushed from Kosovo. They should have some territory there.
I met some Croats here and have to tell you that they are not better than Serbs. This kind of Nationalism is not good. My friends here go to Croatian on a regular bases and they find Nationalism there very unpleasant too.

The creation of the state of Kosovo was a disgrace, t-p. A constitution for this fantasy state was created in Brussels in secrecy, without the consultation of the parliaments of the member states of the European Union.

The Dutch press is terribly anti-Serbian. We never had a decent coverage of the war in Yugoslavia in this country. But I'm not amazed about this: yesterday I read that our nation's social-democratic network (yes, we have nonsense like that in this country) is helping to create a Muslim channel funded with tax payer's money.

There is a Russian proverb for that: Don't cut a brach of a tree you are sitting on.
I think this people have to have their brains exrayed.

I have nothing against muslims. I actually lived with them in Uzbekistan while visiting my grandmother and we had very nice neighbors in Toronto who were from Gayana.
I am against stupidity, though. Some times politicians don't know what they are doing.

We had referendum here recently. You probably know that people voted "NO". And a very strong no at that.
I am proud of them. Brussel politicians are disgrace and their policies (majority) are not good.
But I am not a politician. I have very minor interest in politics. I do have strong views when I have them, as you can see.

I was in Denmark (Aarhust) recently (a few years ago). There they openly discussed at a general meeting their situation their with their population.

It was funny after referendum, pim_derks.
There was French President (don't remember his name) here with visit.
He wanted the government to have another referendum and have Yes vote.
The government refused. They would even have stronger No because people would vote in protest.
Politicians are so bad. They think people are stupid and some times they are right.
Thank you for your posts. I always enjoy reading them.  Smiley

Meantime today there is fighting in Turkmenistan.  Islamic fundamentalists are (allegedly - news is hard to obtain from there) fighting the autocratic one-party despotic government.

It will be very funny to watch American new-rightists trying to decide who is "right" here...   the despotic one-party pseudo-communist thugs,  or the islamic fundamentalist pro-Koranic Law supporters Smiley

This indeed will be interesting to watch. If I would be betting person (and I am not) they are going to support fundamentalists (like they did in Afganistan) and then fight with them.

Imagine that I was so pro-american when we left my country. I never thought I will say anything like that. But times change.

I think values remain - but America itself has changed.
