At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I think if I stop teaching I can read all these books. May be next year it can be arranged. Or may be in two years time.

I like the Penguin editions of P G Wodehouse with cover illustrations by Ionicus; I can find only this one on the web: Just found this about Ionicus: http://wodehouse.ru/dt070298.htm

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I'm rather interested to know whether you're praising the book or entering as one of the 'silly titles' category (or both)? most definitely praise - it's a rip-roaring polemic, and makes one want to rush back to the records, which must be a good sign in a music book! And to rush off and grapple with Adorno, Attali, Finnegans Wake etc(which may not be). And I find it funny. (Disclaimer: I knew the author when he lived in Leeds)
