What is Classic FM looking for?

It doesn't matter if you're a fully trained music student or an amateur composer, if you've written a piece of classical music between 2 and 6 minutes in duration, we'd love to hear it. There are no constraints on genre or style - it can be anything from solo piano to a full orchestral work, and you can enter more than one composition.

How Do I Enter?

You can enter either via the website or via post, but all entries must include a written score. Follow these simple steps:

Good luck!  Wink

Why do I find that difficult to believe?

So, a fugue which was meant to be Bach but ended up with rather Mahlerian bits [dominant 13ths and all] would be all right I take it?!  Wink

ps. I'm no composer, did it coz ah had to

Hmm, it's going to be an angry piece then martle  Grin

As punishment for posting this thread I made myself listen to 20 of the entrants, and well, I just couldn't listen to any of them all the way through. Most of them sounded like they were written by the same person. Einaudi has a lot to answer for  Tongue

I did write down the name Daniel Brett as one to listen to again! Check him out!

Sounds like he ought to be a countertenor.  Undecided

I wonder if a phone-in competition might arise out of this?...

I used to know Ludovico Einaudi quite well. Back then, he was a student of Berio's and was writing very skillful Berioesque music with glittery surfaces. Delightful chap.  Sad

I think all the composers here should force themselves, as I just have, to listen to a bit of each of the clips on that link. A very salutory experience.

I think the maximum of six minutes is too restrictive.

It was by browsing this board I discovered this competition.
I entered and made it to the shortlist of four. Although I didn’t win, Classic fm have since being broadcasting some of my music – and it’s not always the stuff you would instantly associate with Classic fm.

So thanks.
