So, July 17th: beer, politics, and "no rest for the orchestra".

Any takers?

You're doing better than me, M. Sad Somehow supposed to write about 4000 words (on two different subjects) in the next 6 days!

I take it the bagpipes shut up in the end then?

i'll be there!

commissions must be the only pieces played every season to get a brand-spanking-new programme note.

True, eruanto - although usually the composer writes them. In this case, it's not me! The Proms have a mini-tradition of commissioning others to write such things, and the bios.  Quite nice, I think.  Smiley

Why nice? Sounds nerve-wracking! I wouldn't want anyone else that I know to write my bio. My teacher? A colleague? A pupil? My wife? A journalist?

What's the problem, CD? You write good stuff, you've got nothing to fear  Wink. Actually, I think the objectivity this practice produces is quite refreshing. And not many composers I know can write a decent programme note anyway...

Well, thanks, martle, I didn't know my music was on your radar...  Smiley -- I wasn't worried so much about objectivity as about well-meaning folks having a very different idea than I of what would be my 'essence.'

That isn't a bad thing, but, as I say, nerve-wracking. In the extreme

Very true - although it rather prompts the question of what is a good programme note, especially for a new piece. I've received one or two notes to include in concert programmes which are frankly incomprehensible (naming no names!). I personally prefer a note which is short and gives some useful info - eg what the title refers to!  Wink
