we can see the great gallery, have the harvey nicks afternoon tea, do drinks and then go see janine Smiley

Saturday 29 September 2007

Following their award-winning Beethoven symphony cycle in 2005, Gianandrea Noseda and the BBC Philharmonic return this season with the Pastoral Symphony - the picturesque, nature-celebrating companion to the notoriously strife-torn, tempestuous Fifth Symphony, composed at the same time.

The brilliant young Dutch violinist Janine Jansen makes her first Manchester season appearance with the BBC Philharmonic, playing one of the most lyrical and best-loved concertos in the repertoire - whose rustic finale echoes the folk colour of Beethoven’s Pastoral. Dallapiccola’s haunting Piccola musica notturna (‘Little Night Music’) - based on a poem which describes a deserted village square - offers a darker, more shadowy view of the outdoors compared to Beethoven’s idyllic vision, and also picks up on the heartfelt streak of isolation in the heartfelt second movement of Tchaikovsky’s concerto.

The Bridgewater Hall, Lower Mosley Street, Manchester
Saturday 29th September 7.30pm  •  £9, £12, £17, £21, £25, £31 (concessions available to Friends of the BBC Philharmonic, students, people under 26, claimants, senior citizens and disabled patrons)

Tempting but I can't commit myself to anything just at the moment. Would be great to meet you all though!   Smiley

I think the idea was to arrange a convenient meet-up for people who don't live in London, not a day out for people who do.

My parents live in Manchester and I owe them a visit soon, so I'd take the opportunity to join in a Northern board drinks if I could make the two things coincide. But let's leave it to the people for whom London is 'too far awayyyyyyyyyyyyy' to decide on the where and when, shall we? Wink

OK - so we don't deserve 'a day out', and we're not invited then? That's fine, and (as they say 'oop north') "TTFN".

Erm Huh Huh Huh

I thought my message was a little dig at his Lordship, wasn't that obvious? I said 'let's let the people who live up North decide where and when', not 'all London residents are banned from coming' (which would exclude me too!).

Depending on the whims of the Home Office & British Consulate and my travel/relocation schedule, I might be able to join in the fun.

Thanks for that, martle.

I might have to post something on the meeting life's challenges thread .... I'm in such an odd holding pattern for the time being, and there's no telling how long any of this will take.  Might be a few weeks, might be two months, might be longer .....

Yikes.

Seeing as I started the thread which suggested a get together for those of us who aren't down south, I'm quite happy to invite anyone who  can get there, irrespective of whether they reside in the south or not.   Smiley

Seriously though, this sounds like a good idea - I'll have to check that we're not busy though.

Back later!
