I think "restricted view" mostly refers to the pillars, which are not as thick or many as in some churches. Most central seats won't have a problem with those. I'd avoid the back of the left side (as you look at the stage) as there's a tall, heavy pulpit on that side that gets in the way. And I'd avoid the side aisle seats altogether - they face sideways and really have no view at all. I don't know what the gallery seats are like - leaning forward through an entire concert doesn't sound very pleasant! (Mind you I have sat in seats like that at a couple of the best theatre productions I've seen...)
There's a row almost all the way back which is raised up and gives a good view - it may even be the last row, judging from their pricing structure.
I had a gig there last Saturday. I don't think they introduced a rake in the renovations, but I noticed I could see faces in the audience, rather than tops of heads on craning necks the way you often do in churches. And we'll be playing standing up, so that should help with sightlines.

Yes indeed, although I have just booked my tickets so I shall be in a position to witness that breaking of strina's leg which we all wish for.
(That sounds wrong doesn't it?)

Oh yes it's tonight isn't it! Just time to say toi toi toi, in bocca al lupo, merde, break a leg, chookas and hoon!

(This'll be too late, cos strina is almost certainly now on her way out of the door en route to a dress rehearsal, nervously clutching her fiidle. But... Good Luck!)
The odds on my getting there for this evening are still diminishing, but I haven't quite given up yet!

I've recently returned from the concert and found it highly invigorating, as I believe did Messrs 1780 and Garnett who were also present. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the second half as my young companion needed to be taken home to bed.
I found it an elegant and energetic performance, with a freshness which was a little unexpected given the extreme familiarity of the music, and I particularly enjoyed Strina's ornamentation. Very happy indeed to have been able to attend. Brava!

Strina's ornamentation was indeed extremely enjoyable - I have to concur with all of Mr Barett's most insightful comments.
Indeed, I would add that one of the freshest aspects of the performance was the way the music flowed into the last (short) continuo passage of Autumn. I have never heard it this way before, and until tonight have never been happy that any way I have heard actually 'worked'. I wouldn't know exactly what the fine soloist did if you came and slapped me round the face with it now, but know it involved the 'brow' of a rit-accel 'hill' on a most unexpected but wholly appropriate note.
And you can rest assured that there were many other equally fine moments. Thank you for opening my ears again.
Mr 1780
PS I avoided the Gloria due to previous scars.

Argh, how did I manage to miss everyone??? I did a brief sweep of the crypt (after waiting for ages to use the "facilities"), but didn't know who to look for. And I kept an eye open in the pub, but again, not having met anyone before ...
Oh well, hopefully we'll have another meet-up soon and I can actually put faces to nicknames!
Thank you so much, Tommo, George and the Barretts large and small for coming. I'm especially chuffed to hear you enjoyed the ornamentation. I'd been forcing myself to do it differently every time I practised, and occassionally got stuck in weird corners - but tonight it was ok.
Right, off to bed now - back to the grindstone (aka the Messiah) tomorrow...

Invigorating is definitely the word. Wonderfully vital, alive and spontaneous. I just loved it. Thank you so much Strina. That was a real treat.
Some lovely high-spirited 'of the moment' interplay between Strina and other members of the ensemble too who were clearly all having a whale of a time. It was a joy to behold. Very glad I went.
I can also report that the small Barrett is a delight and totally adorable (well, the large Barrett is too of course but you all knew that).

This seems as good a place as any to post that Vivaldi's Women ( in which I believe Strina was involved ? ) is being repeated on BBC4 tv at 1900 on Saturday 29th March.
