Thanks for the Sofronitsky, t-p. I notice he also does Scriabin 6 which I never realised he'd recorded. A bit of a treasure trove there.

Oh my! He does a rather wicked Vers la flamme too.

And here's Horowitz going berserk with the same piece

and you can follow the music.

Sofronitsky was very special pianist. He was not like Horowitz at all.

"Also, ich würde Sommertour und Winterreise ausschließn."  -- I wish she had given her rationale for that. Perhaps because one oughtn't travel in the wintertime?

Shocked Shocked Shocked This is TERRIBLE!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

She even tells us that BOTH her parents are OPERA SINGERS!!!

I recently came across a German book called Generation Doof ("Generation Stupid"). For those of you that can read German, here are a few lines from the text on the cover:

"Niklas glaubt, der Dreisatz wäre eine olympische Disziplin. Latoya kennt drei skandinavische Länder: Schweden, Holland und Nordpol. Und Tamara-Michelle hält den Bundestag für einen Feiertag."

I think the parents are to blame for this. Who on this earth would call his child Latoya? Huh

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Schubert-Ernst "Der Erlkönig"

I suppose this must be a 'staple' of the repertoire for flashy violinists w/ mad skills, but I'd never heard it before.

Nor had I turfers!  Thanks for the link.

Barati did it again in 2007, which is also on youtube, and it's pretty certain the applause for that performance makes up the first 90 seconds of this clip - which is a much more well known Ernst work.

Look for the musicians faces when he announces what his next encore is going to be.......

(And there was I thinking only Kremer could do this!)
