Combining Armstrong's Wonderful World with aliens from outer space is not something new. In the late 1980s, there was a commercial on Dutch television for the Heineken company of two aliens in love drinking beer on a lonely planet. The soundtrack of this commercial was Armstrong's Wonderful World.

I can't find this commercial on the internet. Sad

Here's a short clip from a German film about the great Gitta Alpar. She was a star in Germany but she had to leave that country when the Nazis took power. She failed to continue her career in the United States. In this clip we see her at her granddaughter's birthday party:

The voice over says that it was difficult for her family to talk with Gitta Alpar because she was still living in the past. The past in which she was such a great star. I have to think of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard each time when I see this clip.

Just stumbled across this during some idle googling. A strange compilation of material from Strauss' last months, 'hosted' by Solti. I rather like the sledding accident from a home movie towards the end of the clip.

Great footage! Haven't seen it in years. I didn't know Gielgud spoke the texts in this film. I saw it in a Dutch version many years ago.

For all you lover boys and girls out there...

Oh goodness. I'm afraid I got a little sidetracked into nostalgiaville earlier. I was reminded of this song today, looked it up, and posted the first bit of its wonderful lyric on the off-topic thread. But for some reason I can't get it out of my head. Maybe posting the youtube link will act as some sort of exorcism. I sure hope so.

(Warning: those susceptible to classy but ultimately gooey lovesongs, do not click. I repeat, DO NOT CLICK.)

There is  Sofronitsky playing Scriabin. The quality is not good, but he was fantastic pianist, very subtle.
