A quick reminder that the next two H&Ns are dedicated to recordings from the 2007 Huddersfield festival. I didn't hear any of the music in these broadcasts so this isn't a recommendation or a

Well, that was a pretty amazing response to the first one! Maybe it's true that nobody listens. This week's one looks more interesting anyway.

I was out at one of the Weir concerts this Saturday just gone, Richard, but I thought the Hear & Now I'd missed was of that German concert with Sam Hayden, Rebecca Saunders and yourself. (In which case I was rather hoping some kind soul might be in a position to furnish me with a recording at some point.)
Anyway, there seem to have been more than two Saturdays since 4 January so even if I am confused, it looks like I'm not the only one?!

I suggest you have a look at the schedule... myself doesn't feature in any of the HCMF broadcasts because the Evan Parker ensemble was recorded by ECM not BBC, and Sarah Nicolls' programme was taken from its London incarnation (and rightly so).

I suggest you have a look at the schedule... Yes, I don't know why I didn't do that last night before posting. I now see why I was confused: Playlist: 3/5. This programme features two German ensembles, Musikfabrik and Ensemble Mosaik, playing the music of four British composers, while the German artist Christina Kubisch talks us through her 'Electrical Walk'.
Saunders: Stirrings Still (world premiere) Musikfabrik Etienne Siebens (conductor)
Birtwistle: Orpheus Elegies Andrew Watts (countertenor) Musikfabrik
Harvey: Sprechgesang Peter Veale (oboe) Musikfabrik
Hayden: Die Modularitaten (Modularities) Ensemble Mosaik Sam Hayden (conductor)
Having glanced at that on Saturday and realised I wouldn't be able to hear it, I'd got the idea into my head that it was a broadcast of the concert in which you, Sam Hayden, possibly Rebecca Saunders and someone else took part in Berlin(?) some time last autumn. That's why I referred to 'yourself'; I didn't mean the Evan Parker or the Sarah Nicolls collaboration. You have to admit it wasn't entirely unreasonable of me to be confused about the number of Hear & Nows devoted to Huddersfield, since you'd said it was two and this was already the third. Anyway, back to the music. As you were, gentlemen.

I'm reliably informed that of the works listed as being played by musikFabrik only the Harvey was actually conducted.

I've been completely useless recently and haven't listened to Hear and Now since moving to Edinburgh (so since October then). Could anyone summarise the programmes that I have missed that I really shouldn't have please?

I haven't listened to Hear and Now since moving to London. To be fair, you don't need to because you actually have concerts of contemporary music on a regular basis in London. In fact, you've probably heard a lot of the concerts already!

I record Hear & Now dutifully each week but I've got to admit that I enjoy listening to Jazz on 3 a lot more these days so the H&Ns languish unheard for the most part. For example I can't envisage listening to The Shops by Edward Rushton, which was the latest broadcast, whereas David Torn on last week's Jazz on 3 has already been played twice.
So, hh, the H&Ns that you really shouldn't have missed are: ........................

The Shops by Edward Rushton, which was the latest broadcast Oh damn, yes, and I actually knew that was on (someone phoned me about it two hours before it started), and I still forgot to listen to it! NMC are releasing the same performance this year or next year, I believe, if anyone's more of a Rushton fan than Andy D (I can't comment, I've never heard any of his work).

If anyone has recordings of the following, and could see their way to sending me copies, I will be your best friend/reimburse you appropriately. I'll even cook you dinner if you visit Edinburgh!
03/11/07 Uroboros Ensemble 17/11/07 Gemini's festival 01/12/07 Sonorities Festival 22/12/07 Apartment House 05/01/08 Huddersfield 1 12/01/08 Huddersfield 2 19/01/08 Huddersfield 3 26/01/08 Huddersfield 4 02/02/08 Huddersfield 5
I promise to listen to this coming Saturday's H&N (though not actually on Saturday, it will have to be a LA).

And if anyone has the Gemini broadcast including David Lumsdaine's A Tree Telling of Orpheus, which I thought was last October (23rd?) but may be the 17 November one hh mentions above, then I'll cook the starter/dessert. It'll mean an Edinburgh-London trip between courses though!
It was in the same programme as John White's Symphonies 2 & 3, if that helps.
And it's not remotely urgent, I'd just like to hear it some time in the next year or so, what with David Lumsdaine being one of the best composers to have worked in this country in the last 40 years and not being performed that often any more (and me having been unavoidably elsewhere when the Gemini concert happened in London last June/July).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/hearandnow/pip/vlu1w/I mainly wanted to hear Nadia Plein's piece. She was finishing her undergrad study at Durham as I was starting my PhD. Nice girl - very precise in what she had to say, and generally speaking in her music as well. Got the feeling that there was something interesting lurking in her scores and I hope it's come to fruition.
