"He is very well-liked by the girls on the course. Of course, they don't see a skirt-chaser but a sensitive, intelligent man capable of quoting great tracts of poetry and helping them all with their homework when most of the guys just want to sleep with them." Gay guys are such a civilising influence. Actually, I didn't make it to Elle et Lui, since I was only there for one night and went straight back to my hotel after the concert (and a Macdonald's!) to write my review. So no cute Swiss boys for me, on this occasion at least. Richard's assistant had a certain charm though (at least from a distance) ...

The noodle shop would be Namamen I presume? Heartily recommended. And if that wasn't the one you were thinking of then do seek it out.

Yes, that's the one. Very close to the Nespresso shop - yay!
Are there any good second hand vinyl shops in Basel, or environs?

Schmocki's Ohrwurm Oase [is that a name, or is that a name?]
They obviously sell records by these guys:

Incidentally, Tantris, hope you weren't the guy who phoned me at work today and refused to put the phone down when I told him that no, sorry, Harmonia Mundi no longer issue their records in vinyl format.

Ok Ollie, tell me that 'Oase' doesn't mean what I think it means then, go on ...

Thanks for the leads. Earwig's Oasis sounds unmissable. I keep hoping I'll find a treasure trove of Hathut and FMP vinyl languishing somewhere at a ridiculously low price.
That wasn't me on the 'phone yesterday!

Ok Ollie, tell me that 'Oase' doesn't mean what I think it means then, go on ... Doch, of course it does. It's Ohrwurm that means earwig... (...as well as meaning a tune that gets stuck in your head.)

So Schmockis Ohrwurm-Oase is something to do with tunes that get stuck in your head in the desert?

So Schmockis Ohrwurm-Oase is something to do with tunes that get stuck in your head in the desert? Well in theory an oasis isn't the desert as such, rather a little island of refreshment and fertility in the wasteland. Not that Basel's a wasteland of course but I think that's the broad thrust of Schmocki's naming strategy.

Now someone needs to report what the word "Schmocki" means. No relation to the Swiss composer Annette Schmucki?
