Das hundert-züngige Mein-Gedicht, das Genicht.
Forget where that comes from.

That's from the poem which starts "weggebeizt from Strahlenwind deiner Sprache", from the cycle "Atemwende". I translated that once (didn't get it published though).

"weggebeizt from Strahlenwind deiner Sprache"
'From'?

I remember 'bits on chips' but no 'from'... Wink

Ho ho, that's quite amusing. The pitfalls of bilinguality...

Bits on chips? Huh

That's from a poem (Schaltjahrhunderte?) I can only find online in Spanish! The one that ends Kaltstart - mit Hämoglobin. For some reason 'bits on chips' are the English words Celan used that spring most readily to mind just now.

BISIESTOS SIGLOS

Bisiestos siglos, bisiestos
segundos bisiestos
nacimientos, novembreantes, bisiestas
muertes,
en automáticos panales archivados
bits
on chips

El poema-menorá de Berlín,

(¿inasilado, in-
archivado, in-
asistido? ¿En
vida?),

estaciones de lectura en la palabra tardía,

puntas de llamas vigilantes
en el cielo,

perfil de crestas bajo el fuego

sensaciones, tejidas
por la helada,

arranque en frío-
con hemoglobina.

I passed through the 'other' Basel station the other day.  I spent ages wondering how you performed on platform 2........

Doh!

A weird thing about the station we did perform in is that the platforms and the tunnel connecting them are officially in Germany. During a rehearsal break I went off through the door from the theatre into the station proper to look (unsuccessfully) for a cash machine, and was asked by a border guard to show my passport on the way back.

Did you notice a change in atmosphere between the two countries?  In passng through to platforms 31-34 (the french bit of Gare SNCF) I felt distinctly dirtier.......

I acquired a French copy of Astérix chez les Helvètes last time I was in Switzerland. I was particularly amused to hear that the punishments meted out to the fondue-eater who loses his bread were not at all Goscinny's invention! I'm told it's part of fondue folklore.

Although perhaps we shouldn't discount the possibility that it ended up that way after the book...  Undecided

A little subsequent googling reveals plenty of references to punishment but nothing specifically to beatings, lashings and soakings. I shall investigate further. Smiley

I hope that this means that you'll get royalties from GEMA as well as from the equivalent Swiss organisation...

Best,

I've just realised that my new office is just across the road, the Schwarzwaldallee, from the Gare du Nord at the Badischer Banhof. I picked up their April and May programmes at lunchtime today - there is a diet of Messiaen, Nono, Xenakis, Grisey and others during May, of which I hope to catch some, if not all.

Perhaps there will be another concert featuring composers or performers here - I'd be more than happy to buy you a Hopfenperle if so.

If you're feeling rich you could even have dinner after work in that rather expensive nouvelle-cuisine restaurant (on the Swiss side of the border, I think Wink ) where I treated myself before Opening of the Mouth.

Sounds messy.  I hope you brought an extra shirt.

Do you mean the McDonalds just across the road?  Grin

We quite like the Movenpick restaurant in Marktplatz, as it is children-friendly, and we also found a good ramen noodle shop - Japanese food being one of life's necessities!

No, although I did go in there after the concert.  Cheesy
