Roland_R,

Thanks for the informative posting. Like you have been harrassing BBC re Mixing It's demise to little avail, I agree that they appear to be working on the principal that time will cause the disgruntlement to abate. Now MI has a home, and the BBC New Music message boards are gone, it seems there is less of a drive to heckle the BBC although I still feel aggreived that my licence money is being spent on output that is of little interest to me.

Like you I've made donation to Resonance, I do hope that others will do so too, otherwise I fear for the future of leftfield / experimental music anywhere on the airwaves.........

Mark - hope that you will post here the broadcast time / date for the 'new' MI, I did look on Resonance schedules but couldn't see it. Thanks.. Mike M.

Dear Mark

This is wonderful news - Resonance is your spiritual home anyway, it's a marriage made in heaven. The extra publicity/listenership for the station should help them survive too. Please people make a donation!

I've been thinking, random uninformed thinking. The labels you've supported over the years (yes, I've bought at least a disc per month for the last 16 years thanks to Mixing It) should want to keep you on the air through a small amount of sponsorship (not enough to place you in their pockets). Many of the listeners would pay a small amount to receive a podcast. Plus there's the possibility of advertising website banner/podcast sponsorship. I know this would take some coordination, but between these three possible revenue streams couldn't you provide a cheap subscription podcast that could pay for host website and still gave you an income?

Well, I guess you thought through all this. You're altruism is honourable. This goes for everyone working on Resonance!

I can't wait to hear the 'new' show.

best of luck with it

Mark Hi

Yeah fantastic news. I have already found Resonance, courtesy of someone on the New Music board here. A bit hit and miss, but the hits have been worth it. I'll certainly shell out - and will have to pay for an IRA (Internet Radio Adaptor) too, so I can hear it through the sound system.

Do let us know - here - when it's going out, because I've found their published schedule a bit hit & miss too...

Thanks so much to you guys for this. You are stars.

Keep kissing those frogs!

Re: Tv licences and shelling out for IRA to hear radio via stereo (Gabrielle).

My partner and I gave up our tv five months ago roughly, and have not looked back.  I have not eaten my dinner in front of a series of mind numbing adverts as I flick over looking for something worthwhile to watch (usually in vain).  We now watch films and documentaries of our own choice at our own convenience.  He works full time at resonance and I spend a fair chunk of mine on it these days.  I'm happy not to be funding the institution of the beeb which enjoys the lion's share of public funding and answer to none f the public. Giving up the licence also prevents advertisers invading the peace of my home (why are adverts always louder than the film? They have not right to fiddle with volumes like that and invade my home).

Gabrielle -  you don't need to spend any money: you need a lead that is a jack on one end to come from the computer's headphone socket that is a phono on the other end, this will go into the back of your stereo.  It is very cheap.
If your computer has no headphone socket, you can get a phono to phono instead of a phono to jack, and go from the computer's output at the back into the stero as before, again v cheap.
it wont harm the pc or stero if you have a fiddle around and get the wrong sockets, but be warned to keep the coume down in case it makes you jump when you get the right ones!

Gabrielle

You can get software from the following site that enables you to record audio streams on your PC for transferring later to an MP3 player etc.

I must admit I haven’t got round to trying it myself yet, although it does look quite promising.

Thanks David, fari

The PC and my fairly-hi-fi are a long way from each other, so cabling not an option. I guess I'm either going to have to get new hardware to play back what I record with applian, and/or get an Internet Radio Adaptor which will wi-fi to my hi-fi. There is a thread on the audio board about that.

Chichi,

For quite a while I had an 8 meter cable from the lounge into here, meant the odd mad dash from one room to another, then I realised the massive TV in the lounge interfered with the recording.....

A few good buys on ebay allowed me to set up everything again in here  Smiley

All of this cost under £100:

Anyway, we have a section about hardware....  Smiley
