Well, goodness gracious me.

Commentator, broadcaster and rent-a-gob Norman Lebrecht's latest book has been withdrawn by his own publisher. And destroyed.

“Maestros, Masterpieces & Madness: The Secret Life and Shameful Death of the Classical Record Industry,” a book released by Mr Lebrecht in Britain in July this year, evidently didn't agree with the senior management at Naxos...  hence the withdrawal.

The New York Times takes up the story....
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/20/arts/music/20lebr.html?_r=2&ref=music&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

The most bizarre aspect of the entire affair was that Mr Lebrecht apparently had "no comment" - an event which occurs less frequently than Halley's Comet.

No doubt this means that from now on "the admirable Mr Lebrecht" will return to limiting the subject-matter of his fabrications to musicians who are either too poor or too dead to sue him, rather than fat cats like Heymann.

About time, too!

For the first time in my life, I feel like cheering for the fatcats!

That's certainly done him proud up to now  Undecided

I misread the title of this thread, so alas Norman Lebrecht has not been recalled and destroyed. Oh well.

But it would seem that Mr Heymann is somewhat naive - "For me it’s beyond belief how any journalist in five pages can make so many factual mistakes".

Shurely shome mistake?
