What a shame. Poor old Andy. Doesn't look good does it? I've taken the link out. However, it appears he is facing a jail sentence today.

BBC News Online reports that Andy Kershaw was given a 3-month jail sentence for breaching a restraining order: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/isle_of_man/7189222.stm

Rather ironic that the BBC Isle of Man website, as well as leading with the story about Andy being jailed, has a further story entitled "New prison not ready for inmates".

It's so sad. During my working career as a legal sec I saw this happen so often. Usually always drink-fuelled - otherwise nice people, but there are never any winners and the children suffer the most.
It's high time people realised that misuse of alcohol causes more problems than drugs and always has.

At an earlier hearing, the court heard how Kershaw was "hyper" as he walked up to Miss Banner and Mr Imrie.
He glared at them, before circling them and walking "in front of them backwards", the court was told. Is this a crime specific to the Isle of Man???

Do we know for sure that Andy K's problems were/are drink-related?

Well, that's what his lawyer says in the article. Although he went to my old school and it didn't sound like my teachers had been too keen on him even then.

Does he? That's good to know. I've never actually listened to him! Was slightly put off by the image I'd been given. Should have given him a chance and listened for myself I suppose. Make sure you get a good rest tonight, green one.

Can't stand the man myself, though I don't rejoice at his downfall.
I believe his family were partly responsible for left-wing chaos inflicted on the Leeds state educational system.
Rather too typical of the 'type' who came to prominence in the media during that misbegotten decade, the 1980s.

Oh well there you go then, he should obviously have been thrown in gaol ages ago!

I've never liked his microphone delivery. It put me off listening to the programme really. His voice is really harsh and he sounds very militant and "lefty". The article said he is addressing his alcoholism so I hope that he is and can pick up the pieces. Although I've never personally liked himself, I always feel a great deal of sorrow when I see this situation because I saw so much of the misery it causes to everyone when I was working. He's been working for the Beeb for a good few years so obviously he must have a secure fan base. Let's hope he gets another chance in life.

Who was it who described the Isle of Man as "20,000 alcoholics clinging to a rock"?
