A (rather extended) videoclip of Chalmers Johnson (author of "Blowback" and "The Sorrows Of Empire" in conversation with James Heddle. He draws parallels between the over-extension and collapse of the Roman Empire with that of the USSR, and extends these comparisons to the contemporary USA.

Rather interesting, I thought?

I'll have a look at this in abit, RT, but you put me in mind of one of my Dad's favourite quotations, I'm trying to remember from whom , to the effect that America is the only nation to have passed from
barbarism to a Roman condition without an intervening period of civilisation.

A fair point indeed, Marbleflugel, but Johnson makes a persuasive case for bracking the ex-USSR alongside the USA in that respect.

It's a very good piece, a deeply-researched essay on the topic...  don't be dissuaded by the video format, it's not a youtube-style bigoted rant Smiley
