The Royal Liverpool Phil is, very laudably, trying to raise enough money to provide free and subsidised Family Concert tickets for disadvantaged children, the aim being that every child in the area will hear the orchestra play live. To help, we are asked to buy notes from the melody line of the 4th movement of Beethoven 5, at a £5 note for a note. There are about 4000 of these notes, we are told in a letter from the conductor known locally as "Dishy Vasily" (Petrenko). There is going to be an interractive website where we can "see" and "hear" the notes we have bought.

I wonder if we can choose which note? There are probably some I wouldn't want  Smiley.

So a semibreve costs the same as a semiquaver?  And what about the fast bit in the coda?  Do those cost the same as the three big opening notes of the first subject?  That's not fair!

And the quote from the previous movement... do staccato/pizzicato notes sell for the same price?

Wink  Huh

Interesting and laudable idea, anyway - hope they pull it off.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Someone will presumably call these concerts a waste of time and money, providing Social Services instead of Classical Music Sad Sad Sad
