I never knew where the CND logo came from, I do now.

Indeed - and what of these:

The logo was in use long before 1958 - as an SS regimental symbol, for instance.
John, London

What a nice story. Unfortunately the sign was in use rather earlier, notably on the graves of SS soldiers in WW2. Presumably Holton was not a very aware designer.
Di, Bristol, England

Herbert von Karajan to you too? No, of course I didn't say that. But symbols such as these can get themselves into (or just simply find themselves in) hot water, can they not? Also some kind of perversion of the Star of David - and/or an agglomeration of the male female symbols?

I'm not blaming the CND movement for any of this, mind - just perhaps noting that there's also no fire without smoke (and mirrors).

I've no idea what might be made of all of this by the French, the nation which, when all's said and done, derives more of its national grid electricity supply from its own largely home-grown nuclear sources than does any other nation in Europe.

As someone who feels strongly about global oil dependency and in principle supports the means of undermining this, I do nevertheless note the conflict of interest between peaceful and non-peaceful use of nuclear power but, in so doing, for all that I have an interest in the developement of solar power, wind power, borehole geothermal energy and other like "envirnmentally-friendly" power sources, I am at the same time not blinded to the possible militaristic uses of any and all of these...
