Hmm, residents or locals, I wonder?  One or two phrases in the article suggest there's a touch of the Linda Snells going on here ...

We had a similar case in this country not so long ago:

Eventually, the church went to court and it did win the battle. The authorities had to pay back the fine.

Good God.  Some people seem to have nothing better to do. I think this bit says it all:

Quote
Mr Hartley said that one of the petitioners had bought a house next to the church, knowing that it had a fine ring of bells. “What would happen if someone bought a house close to Ipswich Town football stadium?” he asked. “Would they, on the same grounds of finding it a nuisance, be able to silence the crowds at every home game?”

I think everyone who signed the petition should be forcibly moved.  Preferably just under the busiest flight path out of Heathrow.

The mental image is just... well... let me go back to the Cathedral and church thread and try to calm down a little.

Many of those who had signed the petition didn't wish to be identified.  I suppose they don't want her called "Auntie" in there Wink

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked I feel that he sees these words as rather innocuous, but I'm inclined to be offended by them. As if Christianity's on a level all of its own. Angry
