I assume that Great Britain is a geographic term referring to the largest island of the British archipelago.  It is larger than the Isle of Wight.

It is also bigger than Ireland, but in Diarmid Maculloch's excellent book on the Reformation I read recently he referred to the Atlantic Isles rather than the British Isles.  That seems to add problems - what would Spain think of us taking over the Canaries as well as Gibralter.

There is apparently a dislike in Ireland of the inclusion of island in the British Isles - some see it as perpetuating British hegemony over Ireland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles_naming_dispute

Having recently travelled in eastern Europe, I have revised upward my opinion of my home country.

The greatest thing about Britain is that it has never existed under a modern form of tyrannical government.  And I hope it never does so in future.

Although it cheerfully partmers and assists them...  Sad

I'm afraid the effect of my frequent travels in Western Europe - especially to Germany, Austria and Scandinavia - is precisely the opposite. Sad

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
