Driving through Austria last fortnight, it was obvious there was a general election on.  My German is rudimentary, but I could make out the ghastly phrase "Austria for the Austrians".  Which is pretty silly for a country that has only existed independently since 1918, or have I got that wrong?

I also had a depressing intuition that the best looking male candidate on the posters was almost certainly on the right wing.
