But not in quite the way I'd like that headline to mean. In fact it's just Culture Secretary Andy Burnham getting his knickers in a twist about television not doing enough to promote corporate pop music:

Quite so. What we need, as Mr Burnham so sagely points out, is another TV show to tell us which records are making the most money so we can help them make even more. Seriously, though: as far as I can see it has never been easier for pop music acts to find a public. The fact that a lot of it tends to bypass media conglomerates is only a problem if you're in the pocket of the people who run them.

Agreed RB. A monopoly is a bad thing when you've lost it. Perhaps Culture Secretary Lobbyist Andy Burnham should pass the sick bag ....

Here's a regurgitated bit of stomach lining, spit, safety pins, pogo sticks etc. complete with an appropriate? link.

... the heart of British music ... devastating cultural consequences ... the destruction of tradition ... The Beatles, however, were no fluke .... EMI was a unique alloy of past and future ... The Beatles did not call their album Abbey Road for nothing ... The removal of EMI rips the heart out of British music ... Once EMI is gone, opportunities wither and creativity wilts ... Weep as we may for the burnt-out Cutty Sark ....

Never mind the bollocks it's the Lebrecht Pistols ...

Indeed MTW - that article was a particularly stupid bit of Lebrechtese.

And it was only on Wednesday night that I went to a poetry reading/prize-giving shindig that, thanks to funding cuts, happened to be the last activity of one valued and long-established arts organization.
