It's kind of touching that he says the distress caused him to be unable to compose for SIX WHOLE WEEKS!!!
I heard at the time (as martle says, this is old news now) that he hadn't even got dressed for a week.
What I hadn't realised is that he didn't even know what his real royalties income was. That makes a bit more sense of the whole business now.
When I used to work for PMD as a copyist I had quite a lot of contact with the Arnolds. I found Michael to be a startlingly rude and unfriendly person.
So did everyone I know who's ever met him. I only met them both once, in passing, and Judy seemed perfectly nice, but I didn't really speak to her husband. It's still not very clear how complicit Judy was in this whole theft, or whether she turned a blind eye to what her husband was doing, or what. I can imagine it might have been a difficult situation for her - after all, her investment in the Max reputation goes far beyond the financial aspect, which is less the case for Michael. If she was being effectively blackmailed by an unloving husband into keeping quiet, it can't have been very nice for her - plus the constant worry of exposure and of all her work on behalf of PMD being cancelled out. Maybe someone should write an opera about it!
