I don't see what's 'portmanteau' about the word 'singer', but maybe 'portmanteau' has a different meaning in Hintonland.
Nor should you and no it doesn't in that order; I must be half asleep or something, for what I meant to write was "portable" (in the sense that it can and so often is ported out of context). 'Umble apologies! There's no such place as Hintonland, by the way (well, not a useful one, anyway - I do have a small plot of land in France on which I hope to build my next home eventually, but that's about it, really)...

She has promised, I see, that she really wants to appear in an Opera at some time in the future.

Powder Her Nose Face, perhaps.
Nice one - even if I could just about have predicted that from your ever-resourceful and inventive mind! What about Salome? Or perhaps someone could take The Knife to her (Daniel Jones, as in). I can almost imagine (albeit with some horror) an entire new thread being created for the purpose of speculations on "suitable" rôles for this - er - what's the pass-the-port-word? - ah, yes, "singer". That's it!
