She said: “I knew in that moment that I had to stop taking drugs. I had been given this amazing opportunity and I just couldn’t let myself mess it all up for the sake of cocaine or ecstasy.” Damn. Couldn't she have messed it up for some other reason?

It's such a pity. A promising and potentially brilliant career as a coke-snorting, hash-munching, ecstasy-raving addict, totally ruined by the creeping, soul-destroying influence of crossover and opera-lite.
What a waste.

- Now we must choose, said Mercier. - Between what? said Camier. - Opera and ecstasy, said Mercier. - Could we not somehow combine them? said Camier.

The singer, who is regularly seen with celeb pals at star-studded events NO! KATHERINE! STAY OUT OF THAT LADIES' LOO!!!!!!!!!! Assuming that you are not one of those "celeb pals" yourself, Richard, could you not, instead of giving your illustrious compatriot the benefit of the above advice, have simply observed that you are out of the office at the moment and ask to be sent any lite libretti to be translated? Incidentally, isn't that connotationally ever-expandable portmanteau word "singer" wonderful?!...

It puzzled me why Katherine Jenkins, the epitome of the nice girl next door, the Forces' Favourite, the darling of CFM, the Mascot of the Welsh Rugby Squad, made this confession to the Daily Maul.
It would appear (if you believe what you read in the papers) that someone had threatened to "out" her so she pre-empted them and "outed" herself. Of course she does have a new CD coming out and there is no such thing as bad publicity I suppose ......
She has promised, I see, that she really wants to appear in an Opera at some time in the future.

Afternoon tea is much safer, all that booze and parties with the 'pusher' in the corner is just asking for trouble............... now tea and poetry, ahhh, that is the way to go

Yes, that puzzled me too. On the other hand, newspapers which rely on such stories for their circulation/advertising revenues are notoriously good at 'convincing' people that they absolutely need to make their story public now, on their own terms, rather than later and on someone else's terms. The sad fact that the same papers very rarely fail to sensationalise and distort the story is no less true for this. I don't see what's 'portmanteau' about the word 'singer', but maybe 'portmanteau' has a different meaning in Hintonland.
