And it's all due to Tony Blair?

He's only talking about money. After all, he's a socialist...

More to do with classic fm plugging things and folk realisiing they can make a few bob, though all the arts programs on tv help keep the masses informed too.

Tim Marlow is very popular

All good stuff I say, folk often progress from low brow arts programs to the higher stuff, exposure is a good thing.

Personally I find the idea of making money by exposing oneself in the name of art, repugnant.

Well just look at SOMETHIN ELSE! Our Jez is worth a fortune on paper! All part of the new brit renaissance; DOSH! & bread and circuses; did someone try that before? Howsa bout a new casino or two? The only failure was that the dome was not up to being a colisseum.

When Mozart was paid for writing the music for a mechanical organ in the last year of his life, he said: "It's too much for what I have done, but not enough for what I could do."

Or as Herr Buffo said, in my very wilful translation of Mozart's SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR:

BUFFO: The best thing about opera artistes is how to pay them.  You just suggest to them that you've found some new kid who will take over all their work for half the fee, so that they can put their feet up and relax and keep drawing a salary...  they'll be in here next morning offering to sing eight shows a week, coloratura, dramatic and mezzo parts too, and pay YOU for the privilege!
