Era solo un mio sospetto

The Faber Book of Parodies includes George Melly's wonderfully funny parody of John Betjeman, Belle de Jour, describing the red light district of Amsterdam in authentic Betjemanesque tones ("Not that I'm averse to typists, lusted after quite a few, Pressed against them in the tube train, bound for Hendon, Neasden, Kew.")  It is a once deadly and kind.

So often the kind people in life are fluffy, and the perceptive people are hard as nails.  I cannot comment on Melly's other multi talents, but for that one piece he must have been a wonderful person.
