I was sad to hear that Beryl Cook has died. Her paintings always make me smile, as does the interview you can see in this obituary:

I was told by someone who had visited the Stanley Spencer Gallery at Cookham, that after the National Lottery, the largest contributor to its restoration was Beryl Cook.  And come to think of it, there is something in common in the style.  Without the religious symbolism, of course, and an awful lot of slap and tickle that Spencer didn't do, but all the same.
