Well...it was 1935

91 years of life is a good innings but I was sad to hear about the death of Evelyn Keyes today.

She wasn't a star in the first league; indeed, her autobiography is titled "Scarlett O'Hara's Other Sister" after she had played SueEllen in 'Gone With The Wind' - elbowed out of the way by Scarlett as she was about to marry a prosperous businessman, Frank Kennedy.   However, in her private life she married thrice; King Vidor (film director), John Houston (film director) and Artie Shaw (musician).    A lively combination which matched Keyes's film persona.     Her anecdotes about being pursued by Harry Cohn, chief of Columbia Studios, makes hilarious reading.       Evelyn Keyes will also be remembered for playing the wife of Al Jolson in Columbia's 'The Jolson Story' (1946).   In fact, Jolson had married Ruby Keeler but she wouldn't allow her name to be used and Keyes brought a vibrant personality to the role - like Keeler she was also a good hoofer - which Ruby rather lacked.      The name of Evelyn Keyes would always bring customers to the cinemas in the 1940s.       RIP - and thank you.
