I've just heard about the death of baritone Peter Glossop.     Fond memories of his career at Sadler's Wells,  ENO and Covent Garden.

A colourful and sometimes controversial character (whose blunt bluffness was often at odds with the rather more refined opera circles of the 60s) he was nonetheless one of the first British male singers to achieve a truly international career, particularly in the Verdi repertoire. The recent reissue of the BBCTV Billy Budd (a role for which he was not entirely physically suited, but vocally rather more apt) is a timely memorial.

RIP.

I did not know him, but I wish I did hear him sing.
