A huge talent and a remarkable man.  In particular, I shall always remember his performances in "Hud" (1963), "Hombre" (1967), "Cool Hand Luke", "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" (1968), "The Sting" (1973) and "Absence of Malice" (1982), among many other distinguished performances.

"Acting is a question of absorbing other people's personalities
and some of your own experience."          Paul Newman

He was surprisingly slight of physique but substantial in character.   Alastair Sim was not a man who was easily impressed but he treasured a message which Paul Newman sent after he'd visited our production:   "Thank you for the lesson of a lifetime in basic technique during the past few hours."

                     RIP     Paul Newman  (1925 - 2008)

Just seen this. I'm shocked. I hadn't realised that he had been so ill. Yet another very sad passing this year.

RIP Paul Newman

a subtly complex character with a sense of humour who filled out what today would have been thinly starry renderings with savvy. boggled that you worked with Alaistair Sim Stanley, lovely story-if only the three of you had gone for a drink.
