For Rossini and Wagner, we could also add The Barber of Seville and the opening to Die Walkure.

Another Wagner involving a brief, but thundery storm?

William Tell for Rossini, too, I fancy, even if only during the Overture...And let's not forget Britten's Noye's Fludde, either.

William Tell probably Rossini's best storm, Ron. I always feel that the Barbiere and Cenerentola storms are a more like light showers really!
Loads of great storms there, Parsifal. Have you ever seen Ades' 'Tempest'? It got mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it - fantastic production and Keenlyside, Bostridge and Sieden created their roles remarkably well.
There's another thunder clap moment in Wagner...

SIEGFRIED (Act 3)?
I only heard THE TEMPEST on R3 and wish it were released on CD or (even better) DVD.

I agree, a DVD would be good. The ROH did it again this season, with many of the original cast, and I wonder if they filmed it? The ROH have the capacity to film their own productions now. I believe that the Fille du Regiment was taped...
Yes, I was thinking of Donner's thunderclap before the rainbow bridge appears in Rhiengold - magic moment!

I forgot the storm with which Gluck's 'Iphigenie en Tauride' begins (I have the Callas recording in mind!)

I also have the Gardiner (Allen and Montague), but I prefer the Italian with Callas, though in inferior sound). I don't know the Minkowski. (I think AULIDE - Gardiner again! - is musically superior to TAURIDE.)
It's unlikely (but I could be wrong) that the ROH had taped THE TEMPEST again, since they did it in 2004. Someone at the 'other place' suggested that the reason for not releasing it on DVD was that one of the principal singers, I think Bostridge, was below par during the taped performance, but that's a silly excuse: are ALL of the ROH performances in any medium perfect?

RIGOLETTO (has a very nice storm in the last act to cover Gilda's murder, complete with lightning flashes) DIDO & AENEAS ("'Ere we this deed perform, we'll conjure for a sto-o-o-o-o-o-rm...") IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA - Paisiello - also as a storm in it, like its Rossinian cousin KASCHEY THE IMMORTAL - Rimsky-K - true love is helped on its way by a friendly storm from the Western Wind LES BOREADES - Rameau - well, the entire cast are different winds (or their daughters), so what else did you expect?

There was a marvellous televised production of Elektra where it seemed to be raining all the way through. Saw some of it years ago and can't remember who was in it? Has anyone else seen it? Maybe it on DVD now.
