Odeon cinemas are to show productions from Glyndebourne  .....

Obviously a far cry from the real thing, but probably a step in the right direction?  Will cinema sound be tolerable?

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Sadly not that near (well over a 500 mile round-trip to either Manchester or Harrogate): the sound should be good when it leaves the auditorium, but heavens knows what will happen once it reaches the cinemas: down to the individual operators and their experience of the sound of live classical music (or lack of it), I fear; doubtless some will be tempted to play it far too loud and with heavily emphasised lower bass, just the same as they tend to for everything else they show....

Sadly a long way from me too, I would certainly give it a try if it came to Plymouth - even that would be a 100 mile round trip  Shocked
I would love to go to Glyndebourne one of these days....I'm on their "returns"  e-mail list, so may be impetuous if I ever feel rich enough!
You are so good at pointing these things out, Lord Byron.
Thankyou x Jan x
