Thank you, Mark; though your reply may perplex those seeking for Rossini or Paisiello.........

G d'E, it's also known in some circles as G d'E Deflates Her Very Special Friend.

What on earth is that picture about anyway???!?

Ron, I don't remember if I've grasped everything. That might have to wait for another day.

Meanwhile why don't you all join us at the Waffle Thread and see if someone can't bag the very last K tonight?

I'm a bit late to this thread, so sorry if you've had this opera before......

Thirty-four give voice
Only two have any sense
A fire and a bird

This is the one I still can't identify Sad despite Gabrielle's subsequent clue  Sad Sad. It's occupying most of my waking hours. Could we have a really big clue for bears of very little brain please  Kiss

Isn't it the Ring des Nibelungen?

I thought it was the Ring, after Gabrielle's clue - Reuel is one of Tolkein's middle names.

Sorry if I've been clever-clever. There are 34 singing characters in the Ring cycle (excluding chorus in Gotterdamerung). IMO there are only 2 who aren't stupid and/or greedy - Loge and the Woodbird.

Tolkien followed same layout as Ring - trilogy and prequel, and centrepiece (Ring) and theme (power corrupts). That's my simplistic and uneducated view.

I shall try to do another, and be less obscure - and as witty as you guys (tough, tough!)

If you set the bar around my level rather than (e.g.) Ron's it's not so hard...  Cool

Not at all! I was being extra dim-dim. I even got as far as knowing that Reuel was one of the R's in JRR but still didn't twig  Embarrassed.

But yes to more, please Gabby, and as cleverly puzzling as you feel like making 'em  Cheesy

I have always thought Hunding gets a bad press. I don't think he was stupid or greedy, A bit of an old reactionary but honourable according to his own tribal law. He does nothing to warrant the vengeful treatment he receives at the hand of Wotan.

From memory Hunding does get shipped off in a twinkling by Wotan to Valhalla to tell Fricka she's got her way, which I wouldn't have thought was such a horrible fate.

Until Valhalla gets burned down of course. But that's a couple of operas away.
