Angela Gheorgiu was fired yesterday from the forthcoming Chicago Lyric Opera production of LA BOHEME, allegedly for missing six out of 10 rehearsals for the show:

No surprise that Gheorghiu missed rehearsals; she has quite a history of this, I believe. She missed several Tosca rehearsals at the ROH last year, allegedly visiting jewellers. It's been suggested that the frustrations she caused the ROH, and Pappano in particular, were behind her breaking her contract to sing Elisabetta in their forthcoming Don Carlo.

What amused me in the report was the opening sentence describing how Gheorghiu was 'fired for conduct unbecoming a diva'...surely that's entirely how we'd expect a 'diva' to behave?!

Is she still listed for DON CARLO, or is anyone else now being advertised for the role?  I assume that if she's been spiked, her dear hubby is also scrubbed,  as you either get "the whole item or neither"?  I would imagine Hytner isn't disappointed to have lost someone famous for treating rehearsals as an optional chore connected solely with being able to bank the fee Wink

Of everything in London for this season, that's the production which is going to have me winging London-wards, Gheorgiu or not! Smiley  I'd watch soloists from World Of Gilbert & Sullivan if Pappano was conducting and Hytner directing Smiley

No, she's been replaced in the line-up by Marina Poplavskaya. Alagna was never down for the role of Carlo - we're getting Villazón! Others in the cast include Ferruccio Furlanetto, Sonia Ganassi and Simon Keenlyside, who is practically resident at the ROH these days, not that I'm complaining (a very fine Oreste in Iphigenie this weekend).

Dates are 6, 11,14,17,20,26, 29 June and 3 July...Friends received their booking form for this Period a couple of days ago. I'm likely to be heading for 6th, 14th (early 5pm start) or 20th June. Surely the highlight of the ROH Season.

I'm a friend but not a Friend of the ROH  Wink,  but I hope that means www-booking will open fairly soon - I'll keep my eyes peeled and my credit cards at the ready!   Maybe we can meet-up if our dates coincide?   I think it's going to be "every man for himself" to get hold of tickets, though, so it will be happy chance if we happen to coincide!   I am more likely to try for the end of the run, as I have some stuff of my own pencilled for early June.   Poplavskaya is a reliable all-rounder who should turn-in a very decent performance - can't say I am that bothered about it not being Alagna, on his present form Wink

Reiner, public telephone and online booking opens on 5th December - pencil it into your diary now! I have tried the online booking system on the day they open for bookings before and it can be unpredictable (their software crashing, ending up 500+ places down the queue and then finding out that Visa cards were being refused because of another glitch - I wasn't impressed) but we're assured it's all been fixed since. I didn't take any chances on Period 2 bookings though and sent my postal application and ended up with my favourite side stalls circle seat for Netrebko's Traviata in January.  Smiley
Will let you know which performance I get (assuming I'm successful).

Did they?  I didn't.  If it hasn't turned up in the next day or two I'll phone up and chase it...
