A nice clip (including Regine Crespin, in latter-end career as the grandmother, although she has nothing to sing in this scene) of QUEEN OF SPADES has popped-up recently on YouTube.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=AxBmZvtxzWo

Does anyone else hear the sound-world of Katerina Izmailova (another opera in which a tenor breaks into a woman's bedroom, although in appreciably different circumstances) in this music?   Particularly the bass clarinets etc?

Many thanks for this clip, Reiner! Smiley

What a funny opera this is: when the Countess is collapsing, the music reminds me strongly of a Roadrunner cartoon.

I see now that there's a lot more Chrespin material on Youtube!
