Son of Armin, non?
A rather good appointment, I'd tentatively suggest, judging by his performances in London.

I have only ever heard him on the radio,  and not "in the flesh", Ulrica...  certainly very good work!

It's another question whether he has the skills in diplomacy, tact, and determination to penetrate the byzantine machinations of the Paris Opera and its workings?!

I wonder what his "vision" for the theatre's future might be?  "Business as usual", or will he try to take new directions with repertoire and productions?

I shall be in Paris in mid-November, and hope to catch something there if possible!

I'll be interested to read your Paris report, Reiner. I've never been to the Paris opera, which is a shocking omission really. Perhaps I'll rectify that once the Eurostar terminal has moved slightly closer to my North London home!

I've only been to the Paris Opera once (at the Bastille not the Palais-Garnier), last season.  Hoping to return next summer for Don Carlo - by which stage the Eurostar will have moved AWAY from my home in South London Sad

Having checked the dates (I'm only in Paris for 48 hours) there's only a vocal recital, and no productions on Sad

But there's a production of Aventures with Nouvelles Aventures on in Dec, for anyone interested?  Not often you get a chance to see those Smiley

I'm certainly interested Reiner: thanks for the tip. If only December weren't so frantically busy... Sad

Hmmm, the CARDILLAC looks very tempting, doesn't it?  Smiley

Yep, I don't think I'd need my arm twisted to watch that one! Great sets: that raked X-shape created by the stairs works really well....

Franz Grundheber as Cardillac, I see!

I saw a very fine Salome there last year (as I think I may have mentioned somewhere). Chris Merritt as a marvellously neurotic Herod. And Catherine Nagelstad in the title role did, shall we say, all that Strauss demands (yes, she not only sang but danced. Really very well. And yes, all seven veils were cast off, with seeming alacrity at that). Jochanaan clearly had the hots for her - very effective to have him struggling like mad against his inner urges instead of being all puritanical.

I see a blogger was also there... Wink (That's not me, I didn't make it until early October)

I saw their Cardillac production when it was first on a couple of years ago and it's worth seeing, but will their stage-hands' strike be settled by then? Am going to Tannhauser there next week and apparently it's likely to be a concert performance, not that I mind that really but it would be a shame if the Cardillac weren't staged.

Wonder what Jordan's like on industrial relations.
