I remember reading about a modern (German?) opera based on Seneca's Thyestes, although I can't recall who wrote it. That is bound to be a pretty gruesome piece, with murder and cannibalism thrown into the mix  Wink

I think you mean Thyeste by the (late) Dutch composer Jan van Vlijmen. The libretto is a translation in French of a play by the Belgian writer Hugo Claus.

Yes, and thanks for the link to it, Pim!  I can't say it's a "neglected masterpiece", but there is some good writing in places.

That's true, Reiner: I know at least five recordings of the Asrael Symphony, so it isn't really being neglected. Wink
