Era solo un mio sospetto

Can anyone tell me in what operatic version of Brideshead Revisited the personable bel canto Peruvian tenor was appearing when this picture was taken for his website?

Intriguing - a quick search on Grove finds only one hit for "Brideshead", and that is for Geoffrey Burgon, composer of the TV series soundtrack. No operas though. Wish I could be more help...

I think Don was, erm, joking, Tim. Wink

I keep thinking Jeux, but that's not an opera either!

No, that pic is labelled 'Brideshead'. I think John is right about Ave Verum Corpus... an adaptation of the Burgon music for the Brideshead TV drama? Does he sing it on a K Jenkins crossover album or something?

If you mean the title of the pic on Photobucket, then I called it "Brideshead".  Its the teddy bear.

As you can see, it is untitled in the website:

I think this pic is from the 2006 Zurich production of Don Pasquale. I have the dvd but have only scanned through it. Will check it more carefully over the weekend.

Thank, wex, that sounds plausible.  I don't need to know - I only started the thread as a joke, so don't waste your time if you don't want to enjoy the show.

I presumed it was a C20 dress version of a buffo opera - presumably referring to the Brideshead look with the teddy.  Anyone for tennis?

Can someone explain how Ave Verum Corpus comes into it?  Was it from the TV version soundtrack?

I remember an ENO Cosė a few years back which had a similar between-the-wars holiday resort look. Don't know if that's his cup of tea, though...

Looks as if Wex has hit the bullseye with Don Pasquale unless of course Florez always insists on working with teddy bears.

Ah, it would seem he doesn't. Not a teddy bear in sight in this earlier performance.

Don, I'm not even sure. The BH theme tune is referred to as Ave verum corpus, but I don't know if it's an arrangement of the Mozart K 618 which I'm not really familiar with but have Kiri singing it on her Philips album  Smiley

It is just a thought, but maybe the teddy is intended as an allusion to Juan Diego F, recalling as it does the other well known artistic character associated with Darkest Peru, ie Michael Bond's Paddington Bear.
