I realise this is as difficult a question as what's the best Ring cycle on CD, but can anyone recommend a Ring cycle in the opera house which is coming up anywhere in Europe in the next twelve months?

I have got to know the Ring on disc but have always avoided any stage productions so far as I felt it was one of those musical milestones which needed to be approached with care if not to end up a disappointment and a waste of money.

Suggestions ...

I heard that, too, tonybob.   Don't they flog off any leftover tickets at half price at some point?

Seriously, though, that seems to be the one and only complete cycle this year.  Weimar seems to be putting on all 4 parts but in a very odd sequence.  I've never been to Weimar, though, so it's given me food for thought.  Here's the list from operabase - not entirely comprehensive, I'm sure, but the best quick search utility I know of.

http://operabase.com/oplist.cgi?id=none&lang=en&is=Der+Ring+Des+Nibelungen&by=&loc=&stype=abs&sd=27&sm=1&sy=2008&etype=abs&ed=27&em=1&ey=2009

I don't know anything about any of these productions, gladgrad , so I'm afraid I can't help with recommendations.  Of course it's never a waste of money to visit a city like Gent or Dresden so perhaps you could just take pot luck.  Both houses are well worth a visit.
