I've heard something about the 1960s TV Billy Budd possibly being issued on DVD, along with Grimes and Idomeneo conducted by Britten. Anyone know anything about this?

Good evening, Mary,

Yes, it's true. According to Gramophone (April edition) the 1966 film of Billy Budd, conducted by Charles Mackerras and long thought lost will be issued by Decca this year. It reports how Decca's director of DVD, Ben Pateman, located the missing tapes; apparently the one they located which was labelled Act I showed it had a running time of 2 hours and 40 minues...turned out to be the complete opera! Other films to follow include Britten conducting Pears in Peter Grimes and Mozart's Idomeneo.

There'll be an advanced order for the Budd from here, without a doubt.
