Thanks,  old1; I don't suppose you know dates and venues do you?  They don't seem to be on the ON website yet.  There are some useful observations here, but no dates etc.

No but I saw Paradise Moscow at Sadlers Wells a few years ago.  My memory's terrible but I think it was Opera North then, so I expect it was the same production.  I don't think I'd go again but I'd recommend it as a fun evening.

The Gershwin pieces appeal (haven't seen either) and an Armando Iannucci libretto sounds interesting.  I like Susan Bullock but I'd much rather see Elektra staged.

You can see Elektra staged at Covent Garden if you so desire, HtoHe - also with Bullock.

As for the Don Carlos - is that a new production?  If it's a revival of the one I saw in 1998(?) I'll be very happy, and might even make a trip north for it...

It was Opera North, HtoHe. With a terrific central performance by Janie Dee.

Don Carlos is a revival of the very good Tim Albery production.

Is Tim Albery also staging the Gershwins? Smiley

Caroline Gawn, who directed the semi staged version, will direct both Gershwins. Set designer is Tim Hopkins who will direct The Abduction from the Seraglio.

I saw Of thee I sing at a small studio theatre beneath St Bride's Fleet Street.  The big tap number Love is sweepin' the country was done with great panache.

Presumably for the US presidential election year.  A candidate who gets the presidency on the basis of good looks and tap dancing ability.  What's Barack Obama like as a hoofer?

Excellent! I could do with seeing that again.  As it's being recorded by Chandos, I hope they have a good translation - i'm certain it was done in Italian last time.

Happy memories of Clive Bayley singing the Grand Inquisitor in complete contrast to his Kecal in The Bartered Bride only a day earlier!

I've just checked and it was in English last time. Clive Bayley will be playing Osmin so I would expect him to be in Don Carlos. Orpha Phelan will direct I Capuleti e i Montecchi. I recognize the name but can't think of a production she's done.

So it was.  A translation by Andrew Porter, says my programme.  Oh well, it must have been OK, because I tend to remember translations only if they're not  Cheesy
