Hello all,
I recently found on Youtube a fascinating German TV bio of the great German heldentenor Max Lorenz. It's there in five parts. Here's a link to the first section:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T19Ldb-KQa0 The bio is in German, but even if (like me) your competence in this language is minimal, it is well worth a watch. There are contributions from Fischer Dieskau, Waldemar Kmentt, Rene Kollo, Hilde Zadek and others. The programme doesn't shy away from dealing with Lorenz's connections with the Reich, nor the awful position he found himself in as a bisexual man married to a Jewish woman during the 30s and 40s. One can only feel great sorrow for a plainly decent man in terrible circumstances. There is some rare footage of Lorenz in interview and song, and anyone interested in singing, Wagner or twentieth century history will find this a compelling bio.
