Hi every/anybody.

I'm off to Venice for the first time, this Sun- Weds. Having a bit of trouble finding what - if anything - is on while I'm there. To save me further futile messing about, has anyone here got any link(s) or advice?

Thanks in advance G d'E

This allows you to pull up a list of concerts and operas for a particular period - don't know how comprehensive it is.

There usually seem to be a number of concerts on there, not all of them consisting of The Four Seasons Grin

The only good four seasons is the one by janine jansen, the winter is of particular high quality, just a few instruments, very lovely, I heard it on 'in tune' first.

Have a lovely time in Venice.

I have a vague memory of a concert in an extremely cold venue there, so you might want to take something warm to wear.

No performances at La Fenice.

Despite the dire warnings, we did indeed go to 4 Seasons. As I have never been to a live concert performance of this, why not? And I have to say it was excellent. If the Interpreti Veneziani had played it a thousand times before, it didn't show. 4 violins, 1 each viola, cello and double-bass + harpsichord. Each of the violinists played a different 'season' - a real tour de force, especially Summer. Great ensemble, attack, subtlety, clarity, wonderful acoustics. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks for all the advice, tho!

Glad you enjoyed it. I wasn't actually advising against it - Venice does seem like the place to hear it - but just noting that there appears to be a bit of bias in their cultural schedule Smiley

I've never actually managed to see anything at La Fenice, despite having been to Venice a few times. I suspect the secret is to plan the trip around it (and then pray it doesn't burn down again).

harpy - I would normally run a mile, it was only 'cos we went in the violin museum just up the road from San Vidal that we saw it advertised. My expectations were not high, but were greatly exceeded! Fenice seems to have orchestral concerts on in spring - looks quite good!

Wasn't Opera traditionally frowned on during Lent, perhaps it's a remnant of that tradition?
