No, not just at the Met, HtoHe: mind you, there are plenty of oafs who do it at concerts too..

Please have a quick look at the new thread concerning the Stuttgart Ring on the Performance Channel: the last three of the cycle are to be broadcast on the next three Sundays at 18:30.

Apparently it's a feature at the Met for people to start applauding before the music stops. It's bad enough when some idiot has to beat the rest by applauding as soon as the piece ends (a period for reflection is often really welcome!), but when they can't even wait for that it's extraordinarily irritating.
