The artiste formerly known as Gabrielle d’Estrées

The text of an email I have wasted my time sending to R3:

Can we PLEASE reinstate the practice - which has been good enough for the R3 audience for several decades, and is universally observed outside the "live" (i.e. recorded) broadcasts on R3 - of the INTERVAL. Yes, that oddly convenient break in two hours of music where we can have a fag, fix a drink, take a leak, let the pot-bellied pig out etc.

I am looking forward immensely to the Beethoven late quartets next week, but these vast works, which require great attention and concentration, will be played effectively without a break. How crass, how thoughtless, how listener-unfriendly. For what? So that those who allegedly love to tune in to the interval talk, can hear it at a fixed, regular time - 11pm.

What utter nonsense!

Leave them long enough to their own devices and they'll have them in stretti.
