No-one else seems to have mentioned this, unless I've missed something, so I'd just like to say how much I enjoyed it. The Boyce symphony and the Arne songs lifted the spirits instantly, and Mark Padmore's singing of the Arne and Handel pieces was very beautifully judged. To me, he's emerging as the most interesting English tenor around. I was surprised to discover that he's three years older than Ian Bostridge. I only hope he gets as many opportunities.

I was delighted by an aria by Arne yesterday: 'Rise,Glory,Rise,' from 'Rosamond', sung by Emma Kirkby on a compilation disc called 'treasues of Baroque Opera' a rather nice way to enjoy some classic recordings which I  probably  would't listen to all the way through (the  1965 'Hippolyte et Aricie' for instance')

HMV are  having a sale  of the 'Rosette' series and  I picked up one or two bargains.  'The Great Voice of Janet Baker' for instance, not a felicitous title (imagine it in German) but a wonderful cornucopia including her legendary French instrumental song collection.
